Dear fellow seniors,

I recently posted a status on the Official Class of 2015 Facebook page expressing my opinion on not contributing to the Senior Gift this year, citing logical reasons and examples as to why not to. After a few minutes I realized it had been taken down. After re-posting, it was taken down a second time. I’ve been asked by several students to reiterate my post and the points I made as they were not able to see it before they were deleted. To summarize my original post, I believe that we the seniors shouldn’t give to the Senior Gift because we’ve given enough money already through monetary venues, missed experiences, and the poor handling of business by the upper administration that directly involves and affects us as students. Monetary reasons include rising tuition, unnecessary dorm fees and fines, and fees such as the one for the parking permit this year even if you don’t have a car on campus. Missed experiences include the removal of the original Doo Dah Day and more significant the removal of Senior Week this year. The poor handling of business by the upper administration includes Bagelgate and the complete and surprising change of the meal plan after we had paid for the original meal plan. This is our chance to have our opinion and feelings felt. Once again this is my own opinion: that we, the seniors, shouldn’t give to the senior gift, as our gift has been paid by the reasons listed above. If you feel like you would like to still give towards it I completely understand and respect your decision. Thank you to those who have supported me and expressed their opinions during the deleting post dilemma.

Sincerely, Gage Freeman Class of 2015
