  • Zecchi to speak on campus

    Marietta College is celebrating its 177th Founders Day at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16 in the Alma McDonough Auditorium. For alumni Paul J. Zecchi, this will be a big day. Not only will he be returning to campus for the first time since the early 70s, he will also be the featured speaker at the Founders Day celebration and will be given an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

    On Thurs., Jan. 26., the Office of Civic Engagement (OCE) hosted a free and public community event series on the practice of "fracking," which correlates with Marietta College's Energy and Environment theme for the 2011-12 school year.     Feb. 14 will be Sigma Kappa's third annual Hug Day. This event is special to Marietta College's Beta Theta chapter because they are the only chapter of Sigma Kappa that has Hug Day. The chapter wears unified Hug Day t-shirts in order to celebrate this annual event.

    The Marietta College campus has welcomed Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity into our Greek community once again. "Alpha Sigma Phi's decision to return to campus was a surprise to most of the Greek community but we welcome the chance to expand the Greek community," Adam Stonier, interfraternity council president, said.

    Experiencing a new culture is just one meal away. Marietta College offers the Global Palate events for students to experience foreign food, hear a diverse speaker and enjoy a learning experience with friends. Global Palate is a collaborative effort of the Offices of Education Abroad, Multicultural Affairs and Student Activities.

Field experience is the opportunity for education majors to jump into the classroom, observe certified teachers, and contribute to the curriculum. It is also a determining factor in whether or not students will pursue a lifelong profession within the classroom.

  • Cervantes Cervantes joins Counseling Services

    With the loss of Dr. J. Michael Harding this July, Counseling Services hired Dr. Nan Cervantes to fill the space he left. She said she is enjoying her time in Marietta so far, saying that it is pretty here and the people are very friendly.. "I like the idea that you can belong to a community," she added.

  • Various science, medical students learn from human cadaver labs

    Donating your body to science has been an ethical issue in the past, but it has become an excellent educational tool today. A human cadaver is generally used for medical purposes and may be dissected for education. This provides students the opportunity to have a hands-on view of the human body while also becoming accustomed to death.

  • Search narrowed for political science professor

    The political science department is currently searching for a tenured-track professor. At the end of spring semester, a vacancy opened in the department and was filled by Daniel Lehman. The position Lehman took is a temporary position until a tenure-tracked professor is hired.
