The College Union Board (CUB) kicked off the spring semester with loads of laughs, music and energy.
John Cassidy - comedian, magician and balloon artist - entertained students last Friday night. Students were able to watch Cassidy twist balloons and craft many different things ranging from giant balloon dogs to multicolored balloon hats, and everything in between.
Cassidy holds several Guinness World Records, including "Most Balloon Sculptures in One Hour" at 747, "Most Modeling Balloons Inflated in One Hour" at 717 and "Fastest Single Balloon Sculpture" at 6.4 seconds.
On Saturday night, the first band of the spring semester performed: The Well Reds.
With an alternative pop-rock sound and infectious melodies, the Atlanta-based quartet entertained students with a mix of original songs and many covers of popular hits, including Coldplay's "Paradise" and "It Will Rain" by Bruno Mars.
But those events are only two of many CUB has planned for the rest of the semester. CUB will host a BINGO tournament tonight at the Gathering Place at 7 p.m. The theme will be "As Seen on T.V.," with prizes coming from everyone's favorite infomercials.
Tomorrow, CUB will be showing the 1985 movie "Clue" and having some light snack foods and mocktails.
Another event not far off is Comedian Geoff Keith performing on Feb. 2 at the Gathering Place at 8 p.m. Keith has been performing stand up comedy since 2003. He toured with Pablo Francisco in 2006, which helped to really jump start his comedy career. Since that tour, he has appeared on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Chelsea Lately, One Mic Stand and many others.
CUB has also just announced that they will be hosting a Super Bowl party next Sunday. There will be lots of food and even some trivia and door prizes.
