  • Zecchi to speak on campus

    Marietta College is celebrating its 177th Founders Day at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16 in the Alma McDonough Auditorium. For alumni Paul J. Zecchi, this will be a big day. Not only will he be returning to campus for the first time since the early 70s, he will also be the featured speaker at the Founders Day celebration and will be given an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

    On Thurs., Jan. 26., the Office of Civic Engagement (OCE) hosted a free and public community event series on the practice of "fracking," which correlates with Marietta College's Energy and Environment theme for the 2011-12 school year. The first event was a public screening of the documentary Gasland.

    Feb. 14 will be Sigma Kappa's third annual Hug Day. This event is special to Marietta College's Beta Theta chapter because they are the only chapter of Sigma Kappa that has Hug Day. The chapter wears unified Hug Day t-shirts in order to celebrate this annual event.

    Come one, come all to Marietta College's Little Sibs Weekend 2012. This year's theme is Blue Jeans and Country Dreams, so put on your Wranglers and cowboy boots because it's about to be a country good time! The weekend will start off with a bang on Friday with Western Bingo at 8 p.

  • James Inks Students organize 5k run

    On Saturday Feb. 4, a group of McDonough leadership students organized "The Cupid Shuffle" 5k fun run that raised close to $500 for the Red Cross. The race started at 9 a.m. on a surprisingly nice morning for February. The race had 107 participants. Over half of the participants were Marietta College students, faculty and staff.

  • New senators, VP Currie, plan to end year strongly

    A new year and new semester always mean a few new faces on campus, even in campus organizations such as Student Senate, which held elections last week to fill some empty seats. Newly elected vice president Lauren Currie, and sophomore representatives Sydney Maltese and Cameron Crockett are now joining the 16 other members of Senate at the weekly Wednesday meetings in the Emeritus Chamber in Andrews Hall.

  • forensics Forensics team holds 108 awards, qualifies for national tournaments

    The Marietta College Forensics Team took home 12 awards at the Ohio University Alumni Tournament on Jan. 29. Marietta competed against nine other schools at the tournament and won awards in seven different categories. Other schools that competed include Bowling Green State University, George Mason University, Marshall University, Miami University, Ohio University, Ohio Valley University, Seton Hall University, Ohio State University and Western Kentucky University.

  • Black History Month Former Clinton assistant kicks off Black History Month

    The Office of Diversity and Inclusion ushered in Black History Month last Friday with a luncheon featuring Keith Boykin. Boykin, a New York Times bestselling author and political commentator for CNBC, spoke to a full assembly in the Great Room of Andrews Hall that included students, faculty, staff and visiting Pioneer Scholars and their families.

    Looking for a midday getaway from class? Join your fellow students at The Loft in Upper Gilman for fun entertainment and games! Gypsy card readings and rounds of bingo are just two of the activities that have been held every other Wednesday at noon in The Loft.

  • Fraternity hopes to restart MC chapter

    The Marietta College campus has welcomed Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity into our Greek community once again. "Alpha Sigma Phi's decision to return to campus was a surprise to most of the Greek community but we welcome the chance to expand the Greek community," Adam Stonier, interfraternity council president, said.

  • Bruno President-elect Bruno, wife Diane visit campus; meet with students, administration, community

    Students were not the only ones to returning to campus last week. President-elect Dr. Joseph Bruno and his wife Diane also returned to Marietta College on Jan. 18 and 19 to become more acquainted with their new home. Bruno's full schedule included meeting with community members, attending his first Pioneers basketball game and dining with students and administrators.
