  • Hoskins Hoskins practices variety

    Jason Hoskins, a sophomore political science major competes in a variety of events for the Pioneers track & field team. Hoskins first started running track in seventh grade at Olentangy Orange Middle School so he had something to keep him busy in the spring.

    He shoots, he scores, and the crowd goes wild! This is the famed success story of any good basketball game, and while the shooting and scoring are what the game relies on, the crowd going wild plays just as significant a role. Immense hype has surrounded this basketball season, flooding the bleachers with Pioneer pride and hope for more championship banners hung on the walls of Fenton Court.

  • Students prepare for intramural sports for competition, fun, atmosphere

    Slam dunks, hat tricks and some good, old-fashioned, raw recreation will be bountiful as students across campus begin the annual intramural soccer and basketball seasons this week. Each sport has two separate divisions, recreational and competitive, so students of all abilities and interests are able to participate.

    Senior Corryn Muench is currently in her eighth year of competitive track and field. Muench, a double major in graphic design and advertising/public relations, has set numerous school records and has previously qualified to the NCAA DIII National Championship Meet in both the 4x400m relay and the 4x100m relay.

    This September Marietta College opened the "new" Don Drumm Stadium. The beautiful multi-million dollar renovation is second to none at the Division III level. The renovation included new locker rooms, coaches' offices, meeting rooms and training facilities.

    Sophomore women's basketball guard Tori Dixon has been off to a great start so far this season. Dixon, an education major, has been named to the all-tournament team for both the Penn State Behrend Tip-Off Tournament and the Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot Tournament.

  • Pioneers await OU match up

    Marietta men's basketball made an unbelievable tournament run earning a trip to the Sweet 16 of the division III basketball tournament last season. The national attention gained by such an amazing season earned the pioneers a spot among the top 25 divsion III teams in the nation and even earned them a game against Ohio University.

  • SAAC SAAC teams with Special Olympians to host first Sports Extravaganza

    Marietta College Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) sponsored a sports extravaganza with local Special Olympians Sunday afternoon. Roughly 40 Special Olympians and 80 Marietta College athletes participated in the three hour event which was part of the NCAA Division III's partnership with the Special Olympics, each school's SAAC committee was asked to contribute to the partnership.

  • Intramural volleyball serves up fun

    With the flag football season finally over, students are turning their attention to the next best thing. Intramural Volleyball is in full swing as students compete in two recreational and one competitive division to be the best of the bump, set and spike.

  • Puch Puch hopes for NCAA repeat

    Senior Joe Puch is a captain and plays the guard position on the Pio basketball team. He works hard every day in hopes of leading the team back to the NCAA tournament. Puch and his teammates have one goal this season, which is to make it all the way and contend for a national championship.

  • Concussions could leave athletes with brain injury

    A person's brain is the most important organ throughout their body. It controls all of the body's activities and acts as a biological computer. Causing injury to your brain, such as a concussion, is very serious and unfortunately has become more of a common trend among collegiate athletes.

  • Starr Starr plays with Pio passion

    Senior education major Dan Starr is a linebacker for the Pioneer football team. He has been playing at Marietta since his freshman year and enjoys the relationships he's built over those years. The Marc: How would you describe yourself as a player? DS: Wow, that is a very tough question to answer.

  • Pioneer Volleyball wraps up

    The Pioneer volleyball team ended its season Tuesday, losing 3-0 to Otterbein College in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament. The Pioneers finished the season with a record of 14-16. Despite illness and injuries throughout the season, the Pioneers battled through to make their first appearance in the tournament since 2009.

  • Caleb Muller OAC champion Muller prepares for regionals

    Junior physics major Caleb Muller has been training hard for the past 10 years and it has certainly paid off. Muller recently captured the men's individual title at the Ohio Athletic Conference championship cross country meet and looks to continue running well going into regionals.

  • Basketball team Teams anticipate season

    The men's and women's basketball seasons are just around the corner and the expectations for both teams are higher than ever. Women's head coach Jill Meiring is hoping to lead the lady pioneers to their first OAC tournament appearance since the 2004-2005 season.
