Looking for a midday getaway from class? Join your fellow students at The Loft in Upper Gilman for fun entertainment and games! Gypsy card readings and rounds of bingo are just two of the activities that have been held every other Wednesday at noon in The Loft. "The Loft offers a refreshing break during the week for students," David Travis, director of student activities and Greek life, said.
The Loft events provide a fun way to socialize and get away from schoolwork for a while. "I love going to Upper Gilman because a lot of people are always there," junior Emily Ciocca said. Travis echoed Ciocca's thoughts. "I like the social atmosphere of The Loft itself. Holding events in this location is great," Travis stated.
Among the most popular event held in The Loft is bingo. Freshman Shannon Johnston said, "It's very exciting. People get very into the bingo and it can be disappointing when you don't win that big bar of chocolate."
Johnston and other students enjoy the prizes that The Loft offers during bingo. Sophomore Cameron Crocket, who refers to himself as "a local bingo legend," noted, "The last time I played bingo, I won a Muppets movie. It was amazing."
Travis encourages feedback and participation from students on The Loft events. "I am open to suggestions from students as to the type of events to offer in The Loft. I would also like to offer students the opportunity to perform in The Loft," Travis said.
The Loft will be hosting the Zoot Suit Magician on Feb. 1. Karaoke will also be offered on Feb. 15. On Feb. 28, students can enjoy a food challenge. Sharing more about this specific event, Travis said, "If you challenge yourself to try a few of the exotic items, maybe you will win the big prize!" All events start at noon and last for one hour.
