Every fall a new crop of aspiring artists, scientists and professionals arrive on campus. Earlier this week, The Marcolian <\/em>talked to a several of these first-year students about their early impressions of Marietta College and the surrounding community.<\/p>\n

Jessica Lucas<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jessica Lucas is a psychology major and studio art minor from Milford, Ohio. She\u2019s also an outside hitter for the volleyball team. Her passion for volleyball and interest in a liberal arts education are the primary reasons she chose Marietta.<\/p>\n

Jessica said that while she misses her friends and family, there are several things she enjoys about Marietta.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like the campus, it\u2019s really beautiful\u2026 And I like the professors so far\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

She added that while some of her professors can be difficult to follow \u201cthey\u2019re all nice if you talk to them on a personal level.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to volleyball, Jessica\u2019s hobbies include photography, printmaking, and drawing.<\/p>\n

Ethan Brown<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ethan is a freshman from Woodsfield, Ohio. Propelled by his interest in radio production, he\u2019s considering pursuing a degree in broadcasting. He added that history is also a major interest of his, and that the town\u2019s \u201chistorical aspect\u201d is part of what drew him to the college. Ethan enjoys the \u201csmall community-like environment\u201d that Marietta offers.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026 My initial impressions have still been holding up,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s a beautiful campus\u2026 seems like everyone gets along here.\u201d<\/p>\n

On top of working multiple air-shifts per week at WMRT-FM, Ethan likes to watch baseball and play video games in his spare time.<\/p>\n

Tara Moore<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tara is an accounting major from Oberlin, Ohio. She appreciates accounting for its structure, and also that \u201cit\u2019s math, but not extreme equations.\u201d<\/p>\n

She initially discovered Marietta through a college search engine and upon visiting campus over spring break fell in love with the school.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just immediately liked it when I was here. Everybody seemed super nice, I got to talk to one of the professors\u2026 I could just tell that this was gonna be a good place for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tara said she\u2019s still adjusting to classes, but plans to get involved in other things.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
