Marietta College has kicked off its annual Homecoming festivities. The alumni will have the opportunity to stay quite busy, as our campus population has organized a jam-packed weekend of events.

A highlight of this weekend will be the announcement of this year’s Homecoming King and Queen. The winner will be revealed during halftime at Saturday’s football game, as the Pios look to go 6-0 on the season.

The 2018 Queen candidates include the following: Emily Birnbrich, Jo Herd-Middlebrooks, Emily Brown, Sadie Johnson, Mandi Medykowski, Emily Oliver, Taylor Pennock, and Emily Toppin.

The 2018 King Candidates include the following: Darrien Fields, Tristan Bailey, Joey Bradley, Christopher Metz, and Daniel Fox.

A series of events are in place for our returning alumni, specifically the Class of 1968, who had graduated 50 years ago.

The events kicked off last night, as there was a Friends and Reunion Gathering at the Lafayette Hotel for the Class of 1968.

Today, Trolley Tours will take place at 2 and 3 P.M. for a $10 registration fee. These tours provide an interesting spin on learning the history of the city of Marietta. Riders will meet in the Herman Fine Arts parking lot. Tomorrow, Trolley Tours will resume at 8:30 A.M. and will take place at various times throughout the day.

Other events include a Hidden Tour of Erwin Tower, a Planetarium Show at 2:30 P.M., and a Communication/Media Studies Alumni Celebration at 3 P.M., which will take place in the McKinney Media Center WCMO-TV lower level. Along with that, there will be many events where brothers and sisters of fraternities and sororities can catch up, such as the ATO Sip and Chat Friday night at ten, the Sigma Kappa Open House Saturday at 11:30 A.M., and the 11:30 A.M. Alpha XI Delta brunch. Darrien Fields, Marietta College Star Quarterback and Homecoming King candidate, stated, “Of course football games are exciting, but the events that are held on campus for returning alumni bring a different vibe to the campus. I get to actually experience the long blue line in person, and it never ceases to amaze me.”

Saturday will be an eventful day, as the Marietta College Football Team will look to remain undefeated(6-0) after defeating Wilmington. The football team is currently 5-0 for the first time in nearly 100 years. Fields does not believe the Pios are done just yet; he stated, “There’s not one person in our locker room that believes that this is all we are capable of doing. That in itself keeps every person focused on performing their craft each week. I think that got us to where we are and will keep up going in the future weeks to come.”

The Pioneer Tailgate will begin at 11:30 A.M. with food, fun, games, and music until kick off at 1:30 P.M. At Halftime, there will be a special moment to recognize reunion classes.

Following the game, there will be an All Greek Photo in front of the blue seats at Don Drumm Stadium. Along with that, a reunion reception will be taking place with light snacks and a cash bar. At 5:30 P.M., the  Class of 1968 will have their 50th Reunion Reception and class photo taken at President Ruud’s house. After that will be a dinner and special collections slide show held in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.

Saturday night at 7 P.M. Marietta College’s Women’s Soccer Team will look to add a win to their record, as they take on Wilmington. The weekend will cap off with a series of farewell breakfasts and brunches for the alumni that came to enjoy our college’s Homecoming festivities.
