Marietta College Women’s basketball falls in their first competition within the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Against John Carroll University on December 7, the girls were defeated 70-48. JCU moved up to improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in OAC play, while the Pioneers fell to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in OAC play.

Head Coach Cole Vivian was disappointed in their offensive efforts against the Streak’s pressure and their rebounding efforts. At the same time, after starting down 20-4, Coach Vivian was impressed with the girls’ continuing efforts to fight back into the game. Starting the third quarter, MC opened with an 8-0 run which cut John Carrol’s lead from 41-23 to 41-31.

The girls continued to battle to get back in the game, but John Carroll was successful in halting any efforts toward a big run and finished off the game in a strong fashion.

Alexis Enochs led the Pioneers in scoring with 12 points and three rebounds. Devin Hefner was able to score 10 points of her own along with a block. Marlo Taylor led the team in rebounds with 5.

December 14 the girls will look to rebound when hosting an interesting one when they face developing rivals Baldwin Wallace. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. as the girls look to defeat a competitive team and receive their first victory within the conference. The game will be an interesting one as our girls were able to win on a go-ahead field goal in one of last year’s games.
