Three has been the lucky number for this year’s Marietta College Women’s Basketball team. To spark their three-game win streak, senior, Marlo Taylor, dropped a career-high 33 points, including nine three-balls.

The girl’s win streak started off with a strong effort to defeat the Muskies, followed by a solid win at Heidelberg, and a vicious effort against the Capital Crusaders.

Against Muskingum, after being defeated 22-9 in the second quarter, the Lady Pios were able to rally behind a strong third-quarter effort to defeat the Muskies.

The Pios were able to find their stroke in the third quarter, outscoring Musky 30-9. This was a huge swing after a down first half, allowing Muskingum to go on a 12-4 run to finish out the half. Marietta opened the third quarter with a 10-0 run, and according to Coach Vivian, played “the best [they] have played all season.”

The girls were able to finish off the game up 84-72 after seizing full control of the momentum.

The Pios were able to continue the streak by getting a huge win at Heidelberg University, improving Marietta’s record to 6-7 and 2-4 in the OAC. Heidelberg had a strong second half, but Marietta finished out the last 5 minutes efficiently and effectively.

The Pios started off the game with an 8-0 run and won the first quarter 25-13. To stay hot, the Pios were able to win the second quarter 18-6. In the second half, the Pioneers were outsourced, but they closed the game well with a 6-0 run with 6 minutes to go in the game. The girls were able to win 67-56.

The Pios were led by senior Alexis Enochs, who had a game-high 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Devin Hefner added 14 points and five rebounds, while Cummins finished with 12 points.

On the third win of the pioneers winning streak, they came out strong and dominated the entire game against an OAC opponent, Capital University. Leading the charge with her excellent shooting from deep was Marlo Taylor who broke a Marietta record for threes, hitting nine and finishing with a career-high 33 points. This record was previously owned by Amanda Charraher with eight threes made in the 2007-08 season. Capital started the game well and went on a 5-0 run. It was quickly ended by a three from Taylor with the Pioneer’s first points of the game and shortly after she continued to pour them in.

“There was a great combination of great ball movement, extra passes, and perfect off-ball screens by my teammates to help me get open,” said Taylor when asked why the shots seemed to be falling against Cap.

Marietta finished the first quarter with a lead of 18-11, with the final four points coming from the star guard Devin Hefner. As the second quarter was on its way the pioneers found a couple of hot spurts and ended up outscoring capitol 26-10. Allowing for them to enter into halftime with a 44-21 score.

The pioneers continued this performance in the third quarter and as they were able to control the game with the ball and not allow for Capital to find any rhythm. Early in the final quarter Taylor and Hefner kept up their efforts and helped lead Marietta to a 10-0 run. The Pioneers finished the game strong and finished with a win, 84-66.

After this streak of games, the Marietta Pioneers are now 7-7 and 3-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Their next show will be displayed at Ohio Northern Saturday (Jan. 18) at 3 pm.
