Marietta College hosted their annual Winter Weekend with success from both the men’s and women’s basketball teams. A crowd of over a thousand saw both teams secure a convincing win against Wilmington College.

Winter Weekend would kick off with the women’s basketball game where the lead would change seven times before the Pioneers took over in the second quarter outscoring Wilmington 22-7. At halftime, Marietta’s year long celebration of Title IX continued when they presented varsity letters to several women who played sports at Marietta College in the 1960s and 1970s before women’s teams were considered varsity sports.

The Pioneers would extend their 36-20 halftime lead into a 64-52 win, expanding their winning streak to five games. Senior, Erin Hahn, would lead the team with 14 points and 11 rebounds and help the Pioneers improve to 17-6 on the season.

Following the women’s impressive victory, the men’s team would show their offensive strength, scoring a 94-60 victory over the Wilmington Quakers. At halftime the Winter Weekend celebrations continued as the 40th annual athletics Hall of Fame class was inducted. The inductees featured eight Pioneers of the 2012 class.

After the half Wilmington would close the 48-30 lead to 48-35 when the game would be temporarily suspended due to an injury for Wilmington. Sophomore Lucas Doty suffered an injury and was transferred to the hospital. Doty was awake and alert as paramedics carried him off the court on a stretcher.

When play resumed Marietta would pick up where they left off outscoring Wilmington 46-30 in the second quarter, securing the win. On Wednesday the men’s team travels to Columbus to face Capital University while the women’s team will host Capital at 7:00 P.M at Ban Johnson Arena.
