On June 1st, the Marietta College Board of Trustees selected Dr. Margaret L. Drugovich to serve as the interim president for the 2023-24 academic year. Last year, Drugovich retired from Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, after serving 14 years as its President. In her welcome message Drugovich stated how she is honored to serve as the Interim President and looks forward to shaping a future together.

Drugovich’s career in higher education spans more than four decades. Throughout her tenure at Hartwick College from 2008-2022, she developed an Organizing Principle & Strategic Framework that guided decision making and measured college performance against its strategic goals. She addressed college affordability by launching a three-year degree program in 2009. Furthermore, she led the completion of a record-setting $34.7 million campaign focused on funding student scholarships.

“(Drugovich) has demonstrated a passion for the liberal arts and a strong grasp for the importance of strategic governance.” said Mary P. Korn ‘82, Chair of Marietta College Board of Trustees. “At the same time, she has also displayed an understanding of the demands that small colleges are facing with enrollment and financial trends. She has proven herself as someone who quickly identifies issues and rises to the challenge.”

A Welcome Event for Drugovich will be held on Thursday, August 24th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on The Christy Mall. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Herman Fine Arts Center. The event will be casual and come complete with a Sundae Bar. It will act as a way for everyone to hear from the President as she will lead Marietta College for the next 12 months.

Korn said the Board will now turn its attention to the national search for the College’s 20th President and will announce a Presidential Search Committee soon.
