Over a thousand people came to Marietta College’s Family Weekend and ventured into Don Drumm Stadium to watch the Marietta College Pioneers face the Otterbein Cardinals. The Cardinals did not fare well as they were outmatched on both sides of the ball. The end result would be a dominant 50-0 shutout for Marietta College as Marietta moves to 2-1 and Otterbein falls to 0-4.

In the Pioneers impressive bounce back game after losing 28-0 to Mount Union, they rushed for 295 yards and six touchdowns. Lead Running back Bryce Agnew would rush for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Connor Vierstra would rush for the first two touchdowns of the game. In the air, Connor Vierstra completed 13 of 22 pass attempts for 204 yards. Vierstra’s one touchdown pass came at the end of the half as he threw a 34-yard pass to Dawson Snyder. Furthermore, the offensive line had an impressive performance allowing zero sacks in the game.

Defensively, Marietta held Otterbein to only 40 rushing yards. The Pioneers forced and recovered two fumbles in the game. The Pioneers also had two interceptions in the game. Both interceptions came in the third quarter. The second saw Otterbein Quarterback Eason Hardouin’s pass caught by defensive tackle Isaiah McCartney. McCartney would return the pass for 24 yards. The defense also notched four sacks in total.

What does this mean for the Pioneers? Well, this win helped them gain back momentum which they will need as they head to Berea Ohio to face Baldwin Wallace. Baldwin Wallace is 2-2 and won the last two matchups against Marietta. Kickoff for the game is set for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday September 30th.
