The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley has lowered the adoption cost to $25 until October 15th. During the month of October, The Bissell Pet Foundation supports shelters across 49 states and Canada by reimbursing them after each pet has been adopted at the reduced rate of no more than $50. This campaign, known as Empty the Shelters, is done each year to help more than 345 shelters help pets find families and vice versa Empty the Shelters was established in 2016 and has helped nearly 190,000 pets find homes with loving families nationwide.

The Bissell Pet Foundations states that, “adoption saves two lives- the adopted pet and the one who takes their place in the shelter.” As shelters across the nation have been experiencing capacity issues over the past few years.

“There is an application process. The application is available online, on our website which is HSOV.org. It does have to be completed on a laptop or computer, sometimes it won’t go through on your phone or people can stop up here at the shelter and fill one out in person,” said Amy Rogers, Interim Director.

All cats and dogs that are spayed or neutered are up for adoption at this price with an approved application. The application has to be turned in and approved before October 15th to get this rate.

As of right now the shelter houses around 80 cats and 35 to 40 dogs.

This event takes place every year, but it doesn’t last long! Apply now online at their website hsov.org or grab an application in their office in Marietta to adopt your furry friend!
