It’s been a tough go for Marietta College’s women’s basketball team to start the season. While they are 3-4 after one month of play, they did face three ranked opponents. With that they were able to add one ranked win to their resume. The team looks to make it back to the NCAA tournament, as they missed it last season as they finished 15-11.

The Pioneers started off the season with an at home victory. On November 8th, the BanJo was packed as Marietta College defeated Bethany College 82-67.

Marietta traveled to face their first ranked opponent of the season. That being former OAC member #14 John Carroll. The Blue Streaks held the lead at halftime 39-25. The Streaks held onto that lead as the Pioneers kept things even in the second half, ultimately losing 68-54.

Now at .500, Etta traveled to their first tournament of the season that being Denison’s Sara Lee Classic. In the first round the Pioneers faced Franklin College. The Pios found themselves trailing behind the entire game and ultimately lost 73-67. In the consolation game, Marietta fell early and never recovered. Transylvania started out 7-0 and carried that lead to defeat Marietta 72-53.

Down 1-3, the Pioneers returned home for the 39th annual Jim Meagle Classic sponsored by BSN Sports. Here, Marietta faced two more ranked opponents. First, Marietta faced #25 Washington & Jefferson. The Pios once again started off frozen allowing the Presidents to score 13 unanswered. This allowed the Presidents to win 81-65.

Marietta College vs Carnegie Mellon University 11-22-25.

Next Marietta faced #17 Carnegie Mellon who defeated #7 SUNY Cortland 54-50 the day before. Here Marietta got moving early with a jump shot and a layup from Kendall Sury. While the Pios led 18-16 at the end of the first quarter, they struggled in the second and were behind 32-25 at the half. Fortunately, the Pios came back in the second half. They regained the lead and held on to win 73-63.

On November 26th, Marietta avenged their loss against Mount. St Joseph from last season. On the road, Marietta took the lead in the second quarter and never looked back, as they won 62-55. This win improved them to 3-4 on the season.

Marietta is back on Wednesday December 3rd as they visit Case Western Reserve University at 7:00 p.m. live on Flo College Sports. Afterwards, the Pioneers will face some conference opponents and have their last home game of 2025 versus Otterbein University. The game’s scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday December 17th.
