The Marcolian has learned that as of February 18th, 2026, Coach Brian Brewer is no longer the head coach for the Marietta College baseball team. His page on the Marietta College website has been deactivated here. Brewer has been the head coach for the Pioneers since 2004 and has won three national titles. His resignation was accepted and made effective immediately. Marietta’ search for a new head coach is already underway.
According to President Kathleen Dougherty, athletic director Larry Hiser will work with the coaching staff to assure that the team is well cared for and their season goes uninterrupted. Bill Mosca will be promoted to the Acting Head Coach with assistant coaches Lincoln Hewitt and Matt Valin leading the team and the recruitment efforts.
Brewer won 681 games with Marietta and led the team to nine OAC championships and fourteen NCAA Tournament appearances. Marietta’s last postseason appearance occurred in 2023 when the program went 37-13 overall and 14-4 in the OAC.
In 2024 Marietta finished 24-19 and missed the playoffs and in 2025 the team went 18-20 tying the longest postseason drought in Brewer’s history at Marietta.
Nevertheless, his success has earned himself an array of honors, including three ABCA/Diamond NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year awards, NCAA Mideast Region Coach of the Year and the Don Schaly OAC Coach of the Year.
The native of Glen Burnie, Maryland, wore the pinstripes from 1990-93. The Pioneers went 160-28 (.851) and made two appearances in the NCAA Division III World Series. He was a three-year letterman, playing primarily first base and designated hitter.
Brewer had been the assistant coach at Marietta since 2000. The Pioneers went 163-38 in his four seasons as the assistant. Beforehand, he spent four seasons as the head coach of John Carroll University’s baseball program.
