Valentine’s Day At Marietta

Most know February 14th as Valentine’s Day. That holiday where we give our loved one’s chocolate or those little chalky hearts with cute words on them, or if you’re like me, you cry alone in your room because you’re single.

At Marietta College, Valentine’s Day wasn’t the only thing happening on February 14th. Here is a recap of that lovely, loveless day.

Maretta College marked its 191st birthday on February 14th, making the college an Aquarius, a zodiac sign known for its creativity, which explains why it’s a liberal arts college. The celebration was organized by the student government association (SGA) and celebrated the college’s founding in 1835. The campus was decorated in blue and white, and Gilman Dining Hall celebrated by serving vanilla and chocolate cupcakes decorated with the school colors.

Maretta College also had its annual athletics hall of fame ceremony. The ceremony and banquet were held on the 14th in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center and marked the induction of the 43rd class of Pioneer athletes into Marietta College’s athletic hall of fame. The ceremony lasted from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and tickets were 50 dollars (Marietta College Athletic Hall of Fame, 2026).

The Anderson Hancock planetarium had a showing of James Hood’s Astronomica. When asked about the show, Sophomore student Bella Straits described it as “inspirational”.

The showing was a mix of art, science, and exploration in both the cosmos and the viewers themselves. Astronomica is the final in James Hood’s dome trilogy, and this was just one in Maretta College’s many showings of Astronomica (Astronomica, 2026).

Finally, the Maretta College Theater Department had its final showing of “The Wolves” by Sarah DeLappe on February 14th.

Though Valentine’s Day has passed, Love and kindness were still in the air with Random Acts of Kindness week from February 16th through the 20th and maybe next February 14th will be as eventful as this one.
