DITL of a Musical Theatre Student

I recently had the opportunity to be able to work with Kynsingten McMasters, a current Sophomore here at Marietta College. She is majoring in Musical Theatre with a minor in History. Together, we worked to talk about what a day in the life of a Musical Theatre major looks like here at Marietta College.

Every day Kynsingten wakes up around 8:00 A.M. and starts her day by completing all of her physical hygiene habits before looking at her planner and deciding what to wear. If she works at the Admissions Office, she will wear her Marietta College uniform. The day we spoke was one of those days. After she dressed in her Marietta blue uniform, Kynsingten made her way to the Hermann Fine Arts Center to start her first class of the day: Keyboarding.

Kynsingten discussed the class with me, stating, “I think this class has really helped me with my knowledge of music. I have noticed outside of my voice lessons, I can now play certain chords on a piano to help with warm-ups and no longer have to rely on just a’ccapella.”

After Keyboarding, Kynsingten meets up with Clay Sieg, another Sophomore Musical Theatre major here at Marietta College. Together they walk as Kynsingten goes to work and Clay goes to his next class. Kynsingten has worked in the Admissions Office since her first semester Freshman year. While she was their she folded shirts and helped set up goodie bags for new students.

After work, Kynsingten walked back to her dorm in Fayerweather Hall to change for her tap class. Though tap is focused on the quick movements of the lower body, one still has to dress in athletic clothing, and Kynsingten can often be found walking around campus dressed to impress. After her tap class, Kynsingten and her friends in the Musical Theater Program all headed down to Gilman Dining Hall to eat dinner before they moved on to their next classes and rehearsals. After Gilman, Kynsingten headed to her rehearsal back at Hermann where she worked on songs for the upcoming performance of She Loves Me, where she plays Ilona.

Of course, not everyone’s schedule will look the same. Everyone is involved with so many other extracurriculars that you cannot say anyone has a ‘normal’ day here at Marietta College. Every day is filled with fun new adventures around every corner.

For more information about Marietta College’s Theater Department, check the college’s official website: https://www.marietta.edu/theatre-department. She Loves Me will be preformed November 13, 14, 19, 20, 21 at 8:00 P.M. in the Herman Fine Arts Center, Frederich Theater, and is free to students.
