A Rush of a Week

Another academic year means another recruitment week for Marietta College’s sororities. This year, the three sororities on campus, Alpha Xi Deta, Chi Omega and Sigma Kappa, had their recruitment week from September 9th to September 16th.

The week entailed themed parties and ended with the most exciting day of all… Bid Day! For those who don’t know, Bid Day starts in the morning on the field. Each sorority dresses to a different theme. The chapters went all out with Alpha Xi Delta choosing “Mad Happy”, Chi Omega with “Chi-O Palooza”, and Sigma Kappa chose the theme of the year “Barbie.” The new members are brought out and they get to “run home” to their sorority and they are given shirts to match their new chapter. The active members do not know who will be running home, so it is an exciting day for all.

There were an estimated 50 students, mostly freshman, that signed up for recruitment week. Although some of the students dropped, there were still many students placed in their home for the next four years. In total, Alpha Xi Delta ended up receiving ten new members, Chi Omega received eight, and Sigma Kappa received nine.

Continuous Open Bidding, also known as COB, occurs the week after recruitment week and acts as an informal recruitment for the sororities. It allows students who did not go through recruitment to still look into Greek life. Alpha Xi Delta had events on the 20th, 21st, and 23rd. Chi Omega has an event on the 24th and a Game Night event on September 26th. Sigma Kappa has COB events the 24th, 25th, and 28th of September.
