This year’s Greek Week contained some memorable and entertaining events for the Greek community. The Greek Week events took place from October 23rd to October 28th. The week kicked off with each Greek organization making a banner to be on display on the Christy Mall. The following events were a cookout and pumpkin carving before the main attraction on Thursday.

On Thursday, three teams, each representing one sorority, would compete in a Powderpuff football tournament. The first two teams to compete would be the Chi Omega sorority and the Sigma Kappa sorority. The Chi Omega’s received help as they were coached by the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. Although in practice the Sigs found a natural connection between their QB Ronnie Hess and Faith Malone. This connection proved powerful as they connected for multiple first downs in the game.

As for the Sigma Kappas, they were led by Head Coach Zack Riffle from Alpha Tau Omega. Riffle as well as the ATO and Delta Tau Delta cheerleaders were passionate on the sidelines despite their team having first half struggles. On their first drive, Sigma Kappa QB Lexi Sabatino would be intercepted by Malone returned it for a pick 6. Their offensive struggles would continue though out the first half until Riffle went to their 3rd string QB. Their new QB would lead them to a touchdown in the second half. However, the Kappas would end up losing the game in overtime.

The Chi Omega’s would then move on to face the Alpha Xi Delta sorority in the championship game. Alpha Xi Delta would be accompanied by the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Lambda would appoint Hunter Withrow as their head coach and Clark Wilson as the team’s defensive coordinator. During the first game Withrow and Wilson worked with the sisters to help them learn the playbook they had created.

This atmosphere was intense as both teams were desperate to win. AXD looked to score early however a pass from Jazlyn Ingold to Savanna Gurr was ruled short. On the kickoff, the Chi O’s fumbled the ball and it was picked up by AXD’s Kya Proctor for a touchdown. Chi Omega looked to respond quickly as Malone dove for a pass in the endzone and was able to come up with the ball for a touchdown.

The game remained at a stale mate as each team’s defense barely held on. However, with less than a minute left in the game, AXD was able to connect for a touchdown pass to win the game 14-7!

The championship game had a halftime performance from each fraternity. Every fraternity’s cheerleading team would perform a routine which was scored by a panel of judges. The Sig’s put up a strong performance to open, however, would be outperformed by the Lambda brothers. The Lambda brothers performed a routine with a flyer, a cartwheel, a dance, and a closing chant. This impressive performance was followed up by ATO who performed a routine filled with awe-inspiring flips. In the end however, Lambda would finish in first place as fraternal cheerleading champions.
