With the start of winter sports, the indoor track team has been working immensely for their upcoming season. Their season will start without former Head Coach Jason Davis as he resigned over the summer after seven years coaching for Marietta. The sport is divided into multiple specialties; throwing, jumps, sprints, mid-distance, and distance.

Seth Anderson, a petroleum engineer freshman sprinter, comments about what he is excited for this upcoming season, “I am most excited for the start of my collegiate career also being the start of indoor season.” You can catch him in the 200-meter and 400-meter dash this season.

When she’s not taking action shots for sports, Isabelle Poling, a junior journalism/broadcasting major, runs the mile and 5k for indoor track. Isabelle’s favorite memory of her college track career was, “OAC’s indoor at Mount Union my freshman year.” Outside of track, she enjoys engaging in eating, sleeping, and taking pictures.

Fifth-year journalism/broadcasting senior Addison Painter’s goal this year is to go to nationals. He competes in a wide variety of specialties such as triple/long jump, hurdles, sprints, and javelin. He comments “Track gives me the opportunity to see myself improve every day and is something that I’ve become more and more passionate about every year. Also, it’s given me the opportunity to continue my education.”

From the side, freshman psychology and sport management major, Tatum McNeal says, “I am really excited to take pictures for the team since I’m injured. It’ll be a good chance to support everyone while taking the proper time to heal.” Even off the track, she’s still a valuable member of the team to each and every athlete. Next year catch her pole vaulting, long jumping, and running short sprints.

On December 1st, the track team has its Marietta first glimpse event and to start the new year a Pioneer open on January 12th. Make sure to keep an eye out for the rest of the upcoming indoor season schedule. As it is all coming together next semester.
