“Still” by Marietta College Choir Concert

Front Street was the place to be Tuesday night as the First Congregational Church was host to eleven inspiring pieces evoking emotions of hope, faith, and spiritual awakening. The Edward E MacTaggart Department of Music at Marietta College put on a spectacle for their Spring Choir Concert titled “Still” The concert contained five graduating seniors who were honored during the concert including Logan Hertle, Cole McIntyre, Noah Ray, Maurice Riley, and Lexi Sabatino.

“I wish all the seniors have wonderful careers and am thankful for their help throughout the year,” freshmen choir member Kaira Gulett stated.

Adjunct Professor, Scott Rieder directed the Choir as well as the contemporary a cappella ensemble, Floodstage. Rieder also serves as the director of choirs at Marietta High School and brought in graduating Tiger, Christopher McIntire, who will be attending Ohio University in the Fall. He performed a solo for Flood Stage during the performance of Simon and Garfunkel’s The Sound of Silence.

Professor Merewyn Weinkauf performed piano for the choir during their portions of the concert. Cole McIntyre stated that, “she has always been encouraging and supportive of myself and her performance at the concert was filled with energy.”

The Concert Choir opened up with three pieces including Lamnetations of Jeremiah by Z. Randall Stroope, Beati Quorum Via by Sir Charles Stanford and Holding the Light by B.E. Boykin.

Floodstage followed with The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel with solo performances from McIntire and Finn Hall. Senior Lexi Sabatino had her solo performance during Floodstage’s second song Gravity by Sara Bareilles.

The choir returned with performances of The Word Was God by Rosephenye Powell, When the Earth Stands Still by Don MacDonald, Hope Lingers On by Andrea Ramsey, and My Soul’s Been Anchored in the Lord by Moses Hogan.

The choir ended the night by leaving the stage and singing in the aisle ways for a more intimate setting with the songs of The Lord Bless You and Keep You by Peter Lutkin and Time Honored Marietta by Turner and Bird.

When asked about her first choir concert, Gulett stated, “it went amazing and I am so glad to be apart of such a wonderful group of talented singers.”

Members of Floodstage included; Olivia Emery, Finn Hall, Julianna Haudenschild, Logan Hertle, Bella Karcher, Christopher McIntire, Addi Nolan, Ben Petrie, Maurice Riley, Lexi Sabatino, Clayton Sieg, Maggie Somerville and Jackson Vargo.
