The Marietta College Women’s basketball team suffered a tough week of games, falling to both the Otterbein Cardinals and the John Carroll Blue Streaks.

The week started out with the Pioneers traveling to Otterbein for a mid-week matchup on January 23rd. In this game, the Pioneers would fall in overtime by a score of 78-72. The loss moved the Pioneers to 11-7 overall and 6-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

The game was close throughout, with a halftime score of Otterbein leading 37-31. In the first half, Pioneers were led by three-pointers by Bailee Brooks and Cheyenne Barker, along with buckets by various players.

Despite being down for the entirety of the second half, the Pioneers never lost sight of the Cardinals. A late 6-0 run by the Pioneers would force the Cardinals to play a frame of overtime.

The Cardinals began overtime play with a fast run that got them ahead by five. Despite Pioneer efforts, the cardinals kept the pressure on and would eventually win by a final score of 78-72.

Corrie Burkhardt led the Pioneers in scoring with 18 points. Alexis Enochs would add 12 points, with Shay Lett tallying 10 points.

Burkhardt also led the Pioneers in rebounds, grabbing seven. Marlo Taylor and Alexis Enochs each grabbed an additional six rebounds.

Later that week, the Pioneers would travel to University Heights for a matchup with the John Carroll Blue Streaks. Despite their efforts, Marietta would suffer an 80-59 loss.

At the half, the Pioneers would again find themselves in a situation where they were down. This time, the score was 39-30.

The Blue Streaks would begin to separate at the end of the third quarter with a 10-0 run, and then begin the fourth period with a 9-0 run. These large runs would become too much for the Pioneers to overcome.

The Pioneers were led by Shay Lett, with 14 points and five assists. Alexis Enochs added 10 points, while Marlo Taylor scored nine points and blocked two shots.

The Pioneers play host to Capital University on January 30 for a seven PM tipoff. Fans can stream this game through the Marietta College Athletics page.
