The #10 ranked Marietta College men’s basketball team capped off a successful week by shutting down the John Carroll Blue Streaks by a final score of 108-92. Saturdays win was the 17th Pioneer victory this season. It also improved the Pioneers to 11-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

In the game, senior Kyle Dixon scored 20 points on eight attempts. Dixon’s efforts propelled him to a career milestone of 1,000 career points. With his second half bucket, he became just the 34th Pioneer to reach the 1,000-point mark. In the game, Dixon also amassed nine rebounds.

The game was played in front of a packed Banjo, where the student section was rowdy throughout the game. It remained a fairly close game throughout, with a score of 53-44 going into the halftime intermission. Late in the game, the Pioneers pulled away as the shots started to fall from behind the arc.

Anthony Wallace added 18 points for the Pioneers while Jason Ellis tacked on an additional 16.

Dixon lead in the rebounding category with nine, while Tim Kreeger grabbed a total of six.

Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, the Pioneers played host to the Otterbein Cardinals. In the matchup, the Pioneers came out on top by a score of 96-67. The win moved Marietta to 16-2 on the season, and 10-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Again, the Pioneers were in a relatively close game at the half, holding a 44-34 advantage. After the intermission, this would come to an end as the Pioneers went off on a 7-0 run that would end in an Otterbein timeout.

As the Pioneers began to pull away, three-point shots by Marietta would end up burying the Cardinals.

Kyle Dixon and Jason Ellis lead the Pioneers with 17 and 12 points respectively.

The Pioneers are approaching what could be their most important game of the season. Marietta travels to Bexley for a game against Capital University on Wednesday, January 30th. Capital remains the only team to beat the Pioneers. This game could decide where the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament is held.
