After months of behind-the-scenes preparation, the Marietta College Democrats Club has relaunched their presence on campus, with plans to increase student voter turnout and political engagement.
Officially chartered with The College Democrats of Ohio, the MC Democrats Club aims to give students the opportunity to use their voices on campus. Their main goal is to increase voter turnout — which they accomplish by arranging carpools to polling locations and hosting tables on campus to encourage students and faculty to cast their ballots.
President Peyton Cowdery leads the organization, alongside Vice President Dylan Claypool, Secretary Eli Johnson and Patriotic Chair Sophia Barnhouse. The club also receives help from their advisors Dr. Alice Doerflinger and Dr. Jordan Thompson, who are both faculty members of the Marietta College Psychology Department.
The club has yet to fill the vacant Treasurer and Press Secretary seats, and they encourage anyone who is interested to reach out, as elections for the 2027-28 Executive Board are planned to take place during the upcoming spring semester.
The MC Dems meet every other Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Thomas 103. Everyone — regardless of political affiliation — is welcome to meetings. Leading up to Election Day, they plan to discuss strategies to get the campus voting. Afterward, they will host an election debriefing event.
